Building for Sport

Building for Sport is a building fragment mockup evaluating the construction methods of Eduardo Souto de Moura’s Cultural Center of Viana do Castelo (Portugal)—completed in 2013—at 1’=1” scale.

The building’s nautical origins are described by the intestinal labyrinth of mechanical ductwork, usually hidden, made public. The building expels its service and ventilation ductwork to the periphery of the form; bearing its mechanical systems as an icon.

The second and third-floors shelter an excavated space on the entire first floor. Sunken into the ground, a continuous interior space provides an open canvas for multiple sporting activities.
